One of the reasons people tend to go back to birdsite and not stick around on Mastodon is the human brain failing to quickly shift gears away from a platform that's dopamine based.
All that dopamine? Suddenly poof. "OK what now? I guess I should open birdsite."

anyone not getting dopamine here is definitely wired very differently to me. I could barely contain myself when I found out how many science communicators are on the Fedi, and that was only last night!

The thing here on the fedi is that people are talking with each other, rather than at each other, and that makes it feel a lot better to me, I get more dopamine from talking with people than from screaming in the void :)

It pretty clear when you look at the differences in how Birdsite defectors are using Masto/Pleroma. They aren't filtering themselves; they ejaculate every random thought into their feed fishing for engagement, look constantly for like-minded people to ally themselves with, and get into vitriolic shouting matches with randos who aren't ready and willing to call Elon Musk Hitler. It really shows how an engagement-based platform trains people.

The only thing I miss about ๐ค is the ability to get a flood of real-time, boots-on-the-ground information about what's going on anywhere in the world, simply by doing a hashtag search for the city name.
Everything else, I'm glad to be free of. But I miss that.
WRT arrivals from Twatter, I've noticed the big shock is that there isn't a single, central corporation taking care of you. Finding herbalists, or old car enthusiasts, or whatever--is a process.
So long as you don't mind ads and you stay within the lines they draw, the user experience is superior.

itโs weird, i guess because my use of twitter is less than standard, mastodon was less hard to migrate to - my main issue was the lack of people i was interested in following, which is becoming less and less as people choose to migrate

Maybe it's because some people are tragically addicted to doomscrolling, which doesn't really exist here. ๐ฅน
